A Message from Father Fred

A steward is someone who has been entrusted by his  master with the master’s property and goods.  A good steward is expected to use his master’s goods wisely and prudently.  Stewardship begins on the first pages of the Bible with Adam and Eve being entrusted by their creator with all the good things of the earth.  And continues thru the New Testament with Jesus offering parables about good and bad stewardship.

Biblical has yet another dimension, and that is discipleship.  We are called as disciples of Jesus, to offer our property and talents for the Kingdom of God.  Thus, stewardship becomes, for Christians, discipleship.  The use of our talents and treasures becomes part of our commitment to follow Jesus.  How to spend my time, my money, my life?  Those questions, as well as many others, must be answered through the lens of my discipleship to Jesus, my Lord and Savior.  St. Paul sums it up, “I live now, not with my own life but with the life of Christ who lives in me.  The life I live now in this body, I live in faith: Faith in the Son of God who loved me and sacrificed himself for my sake,” (Galatians 2:20-21).
